One Foot In Front Of The Other

Today was the big day that I wasn't ready for!
I had hoped to better prepare myself (physically) for the 2nd Annual"Nun Run, 2011" as a shadow runner, part of Team All For.  But the day arrived and I hit the road, ready or not!
{We ended up with a jam-packed Saturday schedule going on for our family so we made the choice that I would go it alone}
As I was pondering being ill-prepared, mostly due to a long illness last month,
I thought about the season of Lent and how I often face this season ill-prepared, or rather spiritually lazy. Yet in the end, it is a beautiful time of renewal and preparation for a new life in Christ and our ultimate goal of eternal life.  I love the Lenten opportunity to regroup and get my spiritual house back in order.  Today was one of those Lenten opportunities both physically and spiritually to step forward, beyond myself, one foot in front of the other!
~All For Jesus, through His Most Holy Mother~
~I stepped out about 6:45 AM with the goal of a 7:00 AM "5K" start time~
Here was my official number:
My view of the road...
Praying my starting Hail Mary...
Ave Maria!
My dear husband was a great support for me and measured a route, using neighborhood Christian churches as marking points and for the turn-around point.
What better inspiration than the cross!
This cross was my 1 mile marker. The first mile is definitely my hardest so having this cross for my focus was a huge inspiration.  And of course the cross is definitely worth losing a bit of time for, as I slowed a bit to snap the photo with my phone!
This little Baptist church was my turn-around point!
Boy did I need this cross to push me to the end!
The steeple of our parish Catholic church (to the left of the Sentinel tree) encourages me from a distance...Rounding a corner, I head home.
Almost crossing the finish line...
I wish I had a photo of my husband and children at the finish line, cheering me home...A glimpse of heaven.  Final 5K Finish Time was 36:07.91
*Thank you to Lena and Melody for inspiring me to hit the road, all for God's glory!*
Update on 3/13:
I ended up in the ER wee hours of this morning with a terrible back spasm...I was in so much pain that I couldn't get out of the bed!  My being ill-prepared DID in fact catch up to this mid-forties body. So I am now carrying a new cross as I attempt to assess the damage!  If you keep me in your prayers this week, I would greatly appreciate it.

  3. Way to go, Tiffany!!!! Ditto on what Tiffany and Jackie commented!!! I love the route markers your dear husband had planned out for you.

The marks on your floor (top photos) looked like crosses as well!

  4. That took determination!! I have had just a small cold the last week or so, and I probably would have started to cry if you told me I had to run a 5K (but I am kind of wimpy ;)).

What a great husband to set the route for you and to think to use the churches as markers.

Congratulations for doing it!! And, thank you for sharing.
